Après avoir étudié au Danemark, son pays d’origine, Theresa Himmer a séjourné en Islande avant de s’installer aux USA. Son travail, constamment à la limite de l’art et de l’architecture, est le résultat d’une interaction avec la vie des villes. Toujours inspirée par l’environnement extérieur à son univers créatif, et non l’intérieur, Theresa Himmer investit des paysages urbains, notamment avec sa série The Mountain qui, composée de trois installations de paillettes à grande échelle, fut créée en Islande lors de la période qui a précédé et suivi le crash économique de 2008. La série explore concrètement la relation entre paysages artificiels et naturels, en exposant la marchandisation du territoire islandais au travers d’un matériau réactif aux conditions climatiques, les paillettes.

After completing her studies in her native Denmark, Theresa Himmer spent time in Iceland before settling in the US. Her work, constantly at the limits of art and architecture, is the result of her interactions with the life of cities. Inspired by the environment external to her own creative universe, Theresa Himmer works with the urban landscape, notably with her series The Mountain, three large-scale installations of sequins created in Iceland just before and after the 2008 economic crash. The series concretely elaborated the relationship between artificial and natural landscapes by exposing the commodification of Icelandic territory using a material that reacted to climactic conditions.
